Mail thieves target Hernando County


Brooksville, Florida -- They could be anywhere. Lurking somewhere near your home. Waiting to violate your most sensitive correspondence. Thieves are stealing mail from mailboxes in Hernando County with sinister intent.

"They're looking for credit cards, checks, bank information, and they're using that information to steal identities," said Hernando County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Denise Maloney.

FWC looks into cave access following diving deaths

Bradenton, Florida -- Florida Fish and Wildlife is looking at what they can do to make Eagle Nest Sink a safer place to dive.

The push to review the safety precautions at the Hernando County dive spot comes after Darrin Spivey and his 15-year-old son, Dillon Sanchez, died during their cave dive Christmas Day.

Brooksville MLK Day parade returns after 2-year absence

Brooksville, Florida -- Downtown Brooksville hasn't been this lively for MLK Day for much too long.

Six bands from Tampa, Pasco and Hernando County were the highlights of a parade that almost didn't happen. 

For the last two years the MLK Day Parade in Hernando County had been canceled, because of a lack of support from the business community. But this year the folks at the Walmart Distribution Center in Brooksville decided to get involved and help sponsor the event.

Thousands celebrate MLK Jr. in St. Pete

St. Petersburg, Florida-- Thousands of people lined the streets in downtown St. Petersburg from Tropicana Field to Vinoy Park to celebrate the Martin Luther King Junior Parade. 

"My daughter is five-years-old and she is in it this year!" said mother of three Senika Moncrieffe. 

All lanes now open at Waters and Habana

Tampa, Florida -- A single car crash temporarily shut down traffic eastbound on West Waters Avenue. 

Reportedly, the crash on Sunday morning has left the driver involved in serious condition. All lanes on West Waters Avenue between North Habana Avenue and North Armenia Avenue have been reopened.

Man robs Tampa bank with fake explosive

Tampa, Florida -- A man is in jail tonight after authorities say he tried to rob a Bank of America with a fake explosive device.

Michael Hamson, 59, reportedly walked into the Bank of America at 8302 West Hillsborough Ave. and slid a note to the teller demanding money and threatening that he had a bomb. He allegedly lifted his shirt and displayed a container with metal clips attached and a cell phone taped to a pen.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says the teller gave Hamson an undisclosed amount of money and activated the alarm system.
