Hernando County Deputy arrested for child abuse

Hernando County, Florida -- A Hernando County Detention Deputy has been arrested for child abuse after burning a child with a hairdryer. 

On January 17, deputies responded to a call at Spring Hill Regional Hospital regarding a 3-year-old boy with severe burn marks. 

Upon arrival deputies noted the injuries did not appear to be accidental and began to further investigate the matter.

Possible military ordinance found at home in Brooksville

Brooksville, Florida -- While going through her parents belongings a woman discovered possible live military ammunition. 

Deborah Medolo was at her parents home on Cavehill Road and going through her deceased parents belongings. 

She then found something that may be a live military ordinance. 

At this time it is unknown if the item is in fact a live ordinance. The item is approximately eight to nine inches long. 

Crash cleared off I-75 near Brooksville exit

Brooksville, Florida -- The Florida Highway Patrol has reopened all southbound lanes on I-75 near the Brooksville exit following a crash involving a semi Friday afternoon.

Troopers say the accident occurred around 1:49 p.m. when a Dodge 2500HD pickup truck was traveling south on I-75 towing a 30-foot utility trailer when another vehicle ahead of the truck slowed.

The driver of the pickup, 72-year-old Morris Oldham, slowed down and tried to avoid a collision, but when he did that, the truck and its trailer jackknifed and overturned onto the southbound lanes.

Tampa's Buckhorn: "We want to keep the Rays here"

Tampa, Florida-- The topic of the Tampa Bay Rays future came up again Friday morning when Tampa mayor Bob Buckhorn spoke on the radio with 620 WDAE Friday morning.

"Clearly it doesn't work in St. Petersburg," Buckhorn said on the sports radio station. "The performance, and the attendance have demonstrated that, that is a failed business model."

The Rays have continued to have on-field success despite enduring less-than-desirable ticket sales. Last season, Tampa Bay ranked next to last in the major leagues in attendance.

Deputies arrest man in violent robbery on pedestrian

LAKE PLACID, Florida --  Highlands County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested an 18-year-old, now charged in last week's alleged violent attack and robbery of a man walking down the street.

Investigators say the victim was walking around Saint Lucie Street around 5:00pm January 5th, when a car pulled up behind him and several occupants jumped out and gave chase.

Detectives say the victim was struck with a handgun and robbed.

Retired deputy arrested for trying to kill wife

Hernando County, Florida -- A retired deputy from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office is being held without bond Wednesday after he was arrested for trying to kill his wife.

Hernando Sheriff's deputies say William Tinny and his wife, Rebecca, had gotten into an argument earlier in the evening Tuesday. Later that night around 1:45 a.m., William went into the bedroom where Rebecca was sleeping with one of her children and woke her up.

The two started arguing again and Rebecca told police, William told her he would "put an end to her" and that he was going to kill her.

Suspects break into cars, uses stolen credit cards at Tampa Target

Tampa, Florida -- A smash and grab robbery at a Tampa YMCA led to the suspects going on a shopping spree at Target.

Around 4:50 p.m. on January 8, two suspects broke into two vehicles that were parked at the YMCA on Waters Avenue. The suspects smashed the windows of the vehicles and stole a wallet and a purse.
