Patel Conservatory offers a theater audition workshop series in February | Arts & Culture
Tampa, Florida -- The Patel Conservatory will offer an Audition Workshop Series each Friday in February from Feb. 8-22, from 5 to 8 p.m. Workshops will be offered for those in grades five through eight and for those in grade nine through adult.
The Audition Workshops can be purchased individually for $50 or as a three-workshop package for $135. All participants who purchase the three-workshop package will also receive a voucher good for one 30-minute private acting lesson, to be scheduled through the registrar’s office.
Feb. 8 - Part I: Professionalism and Confidence: The focus will be on résumé composition, headshot guidelines, how to slate, proper audition attire, audition etiquette and seeking out auditions.
Feb. 15 - Part II: Monologues and Cold Readings: Students will study monologue package selection, transitions and how to do cold readings. They will also receive tips for waiting in-the-audition-room and tools for post-show interviews and callbacks.
Feb. 22 - Part III: Audition Songs and Dance Combinations: Participants will learn how to select an audition song that suits their voice. They also will learn choreography and how to assemble an audition book and mock audition.
“Actors need to be prepared before they walk into an audition,” said Ami Sallee, Patel Conservatory theater department chair. “They must know their monologue backwards and forwards and they should know the basics of passing a music and dance audition.”
Pre-registration is required by calling 813.222.1002. No previous training is required.
