Public Transportation Commission meets April 10

Tampa, Florida --The Hillsborough Transportation Commission meets this week at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10 in the 2nd Floor Boardroom at Hillsborough County Center.

Hillsborough County is the only county in the state with a separate Public Transportation Commission. The commission regulates taxi cabs, limousines and wreckers. It also issues permits for life support ambulances in the county.

The commission has always operated with a cloud of controversy. A former director was forced out after the 10 News Investigators reported he was being paid more than his contract called for.

Former County Commissioner Kevin White who chaired the agency board was arrested for bribery over a towing contract. White is currently serving time in federal prison.

The 10 News Investigators exposed the current executive director Cesar Padilla was doing college degrees work while he was being paid more than $100,000 a year.

Padilla held the job for months on an interim basis because he didn't have a college degree which was a mandatory requirement.

He recently got into hot water again when he filled out his own evaluation form and sent it to County Commissioner Victor Crist to sign off on.
