Cemetery desecrated in Bushnell | Crime
Bushnell, Florida -- Sumter deputies are investigating a case of vandalism at a Bushnell military cemetery.
Investigators say more than a dozen headstones were pushed over or dug out at the Florida National Cemetery, located at 6502 SW 102nd Avenue in Bushnell. The disturbed graves were located in two sections in the southwest corner of the cemetery.
Detectives are investigating the case as a hate crime, because all of the headstones involved were engraved with the Star of David.

"This is a tragic and despicable incident, and whoever is responsible for this should be ashamed of their actions and brought to justice," said Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-09), the vice chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee. "Not only did these vandals desecrate the memorials of those who fought and died to protect our freedom, but they targeted individuals simply because of their religious beliefs."
The Florida National Cemetery is run by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division Detective Brian Wilson at 352-569-1616 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
