Man accused of tricking girlfriend to take abortion pill
Crime

Tampa, Florida -- A 28-year-old man could face the rest of his life behind bars after he allegedly switched his girlfriend's antibiotic with an abortion pill he fraudulently obtained.

According to a federal indictment, John Andrew Welden forged a prescription from his father Stephen Weldon, who is an OB/GYN doctor in Lutz

With the prescription, Welden allegedly bought Misoprostol (Cytotec), which can cause a miscarriage if consumed by a pregnant woman. Prosecutors say Welden then swapped its label with his girlfriend's antibiotic bottle labeling.

Welden was arrested and faces two federal charges after his girlfriend took the pill and lost the unborn child.  She reportedly planned to keep the baby.

Welden is currently held without bail, because he is considered a flight risk.
