Man threatens to blow up bank in suicide by cop attempt

Brooksville, Florida -- Brooksville Police were able to get a man into police custody safely after a very scary incident at a bank Thursday afternoon in which he said he had a bomb in his backpack and intended to blow the bank up.

Detectives say Mark Riley walked into the SunTrust Bank on Jefferson Street around 12:37 p.m., approached a teller and asked to speak with security. When the teller asked why, Riley said he had an explosive device in his backpack and he was going to blow up the building killing everyone inside.

Man arrested for stealing money from Army soldier

Hernando County, Florida -- Detectives have arrested a transient resident of Hernando County for organized fraud.

The investigation began when Susan Acreman noticed suspicious activity in her and her son's bank account. Her son, Donald Acreman Jr. is in the Army and currently stationed overseas in Korea. 

It was then discovered that someone had transferred $43,000 from Donald's account into Susan's account and then transferred the money from Susan's account into two accounts to people who were unknown to Susan.

GPS leads detectives to burglar

Brooksville, Florida -- A burglar who thought he got away with some free stuff from his victim's home had to think again after GPS software installed on the owner's property led detectives right to him.

Hernando Sheriff's deputies say on Dec. 4, the burglar broke into a home in the Royal Highlands area and stole various electronics and other small items.

Fortunately for the homeowner, the inside of the home was under video surveillance and he had previously installed GPS tracking software on several electronic items.

Emotional week for friends of murder victim Vicki Robinson

Tampa, Florida -- "It caught me off guard," says Ed Philips of the wave of emotions that have coursed through him this week.

Philips says Vicki Robinson, killed by her daughter Valessa in 1998, was "a dear friend" and the memories of her horrific murder have made this a difficult week.

"I've cried several times," he admits.

Woman's prison release stirs memories of horrific crime

Tampa, Florida -- For friends of Vicki Robinson this is a tough time. News of Valessa Robinson's prison release on Friday brings them back to the dark days of 1998 when they lost a ray of sunshine.

"Vicki was a woman who would light up the room with her smile," says Gibbs Wilson, who knew Vicki through church and a Christian singles group.

Registered sex offender arrested for sexual battery

Brooksville, Florida -- A registered sex offender is back in jail without bond after detectives say he sexually battered a 16-year-old girl.

The girl reportedly told Hernando Sheriff's detectives 34-year-old William Sheller, who was living in the 200 block of Oakland Avenue, sexually battered her.

He has been charged with sexual battery custodial authority and failure to comply with sexual offender obligations.

Detectives say Sheller was previously arrested in Ohio for a similar act.

Police search for suspects in deadly drive-by shooting

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police Department detectives are asking for anyone with information on the early morning fatal shooting of a young man to contact them.

Police say 19-year-old Stephon Roundtree was shot around midnight Tuesday at a home in the 3600 block of E. Mohawk Avenue. Detectives say a vehicle pulled in front of the home and fired numerous shots at him while he was standing in the driveway.

Roundtree died of his injuries at the home.
