Police: Pharmacy tech caught stealing pills

Spring Hill, Florida -- A pharmacy tech at a Spring Hill Walgreens has been arrested after she was caught on camera stealing pills while on the job.

Loss prevention manager Cliff Newman told Hernando County Sheriff's deputies the pharmacy in the 14000 block of Spring Hill Drive noticed about 1,000 pills of the generic brand for Soma had gone missing.

After watching surveillance video between May 24 and May 31, he reported seeing Jacqueline McDermott on four separate occasions fill bottles with the drug and put them in her coat pocket.

Fugitive search leads to meth lab discovery

Spring Hill, Florida -- A search for a wanted person at a home in Spring Hill Tuesday led police to the discovery of an active meth lab and the arrest of two people.

Hernando County Vice and Narcotics detectives, along with Hernando County Fire Rescue personnel and HAZMAT, spent most of the day yesterday dismantling the meth Lab in the 1200 block of Trellis Avenue.

What they found was an active "one pot" meth lab, along with two other used "one pot" vessels, numerous chemicals and other items used in manufacturing methamphetamine.

Man snatches purse from school bus driver

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man who stole a bus driver's purse and then fled on a bicycle.

Deputies say on May 20, the man walked onto a Hillsborough County Public Schools' school bus in the 5900 block of Yorkshire Drive and stole the bus driver's purse. He then sped away on a dark-colored mountain bike.

Hernando County, Florida-- Sheriff Al Nienhuis wants to remind Hernando residents of an interactive online mapping tool that keeps communities updated on local crime.

According to the sheriff, the program utilizes Google Maps to pinpoint what types of crimes have been reported where, so as to keep citizens safe, alert and informed of what's happening near them...and that's day-in and day-out! Sheriff Nienhuis says crime information for all of unincorporated Hernando County is updated daily by 6 a.m.

Former employee charged in bowling alley burglary

Spring Hill, Florida -- A former employee of a Spring Hill bowling alley has been charged with burglarizing the business not long after his firing.

Hernando County deputies say Carlos Martins informed them that someone had broken into Spring Hill Lanes and stolen $10,000 in cash around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Martins told deputies it was around that time that the alarm to the business was deactivated and never re-activated, and that he suspected 20-year-old Steven Paxton who he had recently fired.

Man sentenced to 12 years on child porn charges

Tampa, Florida -- A Tampa man was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison by a U.S. district judge Monday on child porn charges.

According to court documents, between May and December 2012, 58-year-old Paul Carlin used a peer-to-peer file sharing program to distribute at least 17 files depicting child pornography to undercover FBI agents.

Fingerprints link man to sexual battery attack in Ybor

Tampa, Florida -- Fingerprints left at the scene of a sexual battery in the early morning hours Saturday led to the arrest of the woman's attacker, police say.

Tampa Police detectives say the woman was walking alone to where she believed her car was parked in the 1600 block of East 12th Avenue around 2:20 a.m. when she was approached by a man. 

After engaging her in a casual conversation, he reportedly grabbed her by the arm and dragged her between two parked cars at a nearby apartment complex where he sexually battered her.
