3 arrested in Brooksville drug bust

Brooksville, Florida -- Three people were arrested Tuesday after multiple narcotics were found inside a Brooksville home.

The Hernando Sheriff's Office say on Oct. 15, three people were arrested after a search of a home in the 16000 block of Pointview Road resulted in the seizure of numerous illegal narcotics, including a trafficking amount of methamphetamine, and paraphernalia.

Dennis Koehler, 41; Stephanie Mocas, 29; and Jonathan Mixson, 33 were arrested on multiple charges.

Woman guilty in DUI death of construction worker

BROOKSVILLE, Florida (AP) - A Tampa Bay area woman has been convicted of fatally striking a construction worker with her truck while under the influence of methadone.

A Hernando County jury found 47-year-old Karen Macchione guilty of DUI manslaughter on Thursday. She faces up to 15 years in prison at her Nov. 26 sentencing.

Man returns to scene, confesses to fatal hit and run

Town N Country, Florida -- Hillsborough County deputies say the driver responsible for a fatal hit and run crash that killed a pedestrian Monday evening returned to the scene and confessed to the crime.

Deputies say 53-year-old Patricia Plaud was trying to cross the northbound lanes of West Waters Ave. from Oak Trace Way in Town N Country when she was hit by a Ford F-150 heading east on Waters.

Investigators say the driver hit Plaud while trying to swerve out of the way and continue driving without stopping.

Plaud was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later.

Man charged with murder in pregnant girlfriend's death

Tampa, Florida -- The man arrested in connection with the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend, Brianna Anderson, has been charged with second degree murder.

Tampa Police have formally charged 22-year-old Jamar Silas after two witnesses came forward and identified Silas as the person who left the home immediately after they heard the gunshot that resulted in Anderson's death. Detectives say Silas also exchanged text messages with an additional person stating he had messed up and that Anderson was dead.

Deputies arrest "handyman" for thefts in Spring Hill

Hernando County, Florida -- A man has been arrested for stealing from elderly victims while fixing their homes. 

Hernando Sheriff's deputies say 32-year-old Jason Buse was working as a "handyman" at two homes in Spring Hill and while he was fixing stuff around the home, he was also stealing. 

In the first home, an elderly woman said she hired Buse in August to help her with small tasks around her home. Then, on Sept. 30, she realized some of her jewelry, along with seven of her checks, were missing.  

Man steals Michael Kors purses from Tampa Marshalls

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's detectives are asking for the public's help identifying a man who stole six designer purses from a Tampa Marshalls store.

Police say on around 3:50 p.m. on Sept. 24, the man stole $1,200 worth of Michael Kors purses from the store located at 3661 Waters Avenue and ran off through the store's rear emergency exit.
