Reports of financial fraud on rise in Highlands Co.

Highlands County, Florida -- It's not just the weather that's heating up during the past few weeks! The Highlands County Sheriff's Office has received numerous complaints from citizens regarding frauds of all sorts from tax refund and identity theft to check washing and fake IRS calls. 

There have even been calls to residents trying to convince them of winning a large sum of money. Unfortunately, all of these are scams and the people behind them are created to relieve you of your identity and your cash.

Victim in hit and run crash dies, driver sought

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police say the woman hit by a car at E Lake Avenue and N 12th Street early Sunday morning has died from her injuries.

While on patrol, two Tampa Police officers say they spotted 60-year-old Patricia Louisy lying in the eastbound lane of East Lake Avenue aroudn 12:15 a.m. on June 9.  

The preliminary investigation indicated that Louisy was struck by a vehicle. She was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition where she later died.

Woman carjacked in front of her home

Brooksville, Florida -- The Brooksville Police Department is investigating a carjacking that occurred late Wednesday night.

The woman told police she was walking to the front door of her home in the 800 block of Peach Street around 10:40 p.m. when she was approached by a armed man who pointed a gun at her and demanded her keys, wallet and cell phone.

The woman gave him her keys and he drove away in her car -- a teal 2006 Buick Lucerne with 22-inch chrome rims with FL tag 135LJD.

Deputies attacked while trying to serve warrant

Spring Hill, Florida -- Two deputies attempting to arrest a wanted man on assault and battery charges were attacked themselves Tuesday morning.

The Hernando Sheriff's Office says around 10:22 a.m., the two deputies went to a home in the 7300 block of Toucan Trail to serve a felony arrest warrant for 44-year-old Scott Mom. Mom was wanted for domestic aggravated assault and domestic battery person over 65.

Carrollwood BB&T Bank robbery suspect caught

Carrollwood, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies say they have caught the man wanted in the robbery of a Carrollwood BB&T Bank Friday afternoon.

Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies say the were able to link 43-year-old Jeffery Bilger to the crime with forensic evidence. He was arrested without incident and is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Mother charged in death of infant left in hot car

LAKE PLACID, Florida -- A 23-year-old mother has been charged with aggravated manslaughter and child neglect in the death of her 1-year-old infant.

Highlands County Sheriff's detectives say dispatchers received a call from a local hospital after the dead baby was brought by EMS to the emergency room.

Investigators say Adriana Espinosa left her baby in a car with the engine off, but the fan running. As the car heated up, the baby went into distress and ultimately died. 

Espinosa is being held on $300,000 bond.

Deputies investigate Hernando home invasion

Spring Hill, Florida -- A man was robbed in his home on Bishop Road by three masked suspects, Hernando Sheriff's deputies say. 

Deputies say on June 7, around 1:15 a.m., a man was sleeping in his bed when he heard a knock at his front door. When he opened the door he saw three masked men standing there with guns. He slammed the door and locked it.

The suspects immediately kicked the door in.
