Tampa to start pilot program for Downtown Trash pickup

Tampa, Florida--The city of Tampa is starting a new pilot program in conjunction with the Downtown Partnership to make the city more visually pleasing in regards to trash removal.

Starting July 1st  the 95 gallon  blue carts used for garbage removal in Downtown will be replaced by 30 gallon  blue bags that merchants will purchase from the city. The merchants will be charged on what the city calls a "pay as you throw system."  The city maintains the cost will be minimal to merchants.

Under the new system the bags will be collected 3 times a week instead of the current twice a week pickup of the large Garbage carts that is currently in use.
