Sandbags available for people near Withlacoochee River | Environment
Hernando County, FL -- The Hernando County Sheriff's Office Emergency Operations Center is offering sand and sandbags to people who live near the Withlacoochee River, which has reached flood action stage.
Recent rains have pushed the river to the flood action stage of 10 feet, according to officials.
The river has the potential to flood the Talisman Estates, Riverdale, River Height Estates, Nobleton and Lacoochee in Pasco County.
But, over the next few days, the National Weather Service expects river levels to decrease.
"As we move into the rainy season, however, we encourage residents who live in low-lying areas to monitor the river levels closely and to consider preparations to protect their property," the Hernando County Sheriff's Office wrote in a news release.
Sand and sandbags are available to people who live in affected areas. They can be picked up at the Community Center in Ridge Manor, which is located at 34240 Cortez Boulevard.
