Attendees will hear suggestions on how to make their landscapes more attractive with less effort by following the Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles. Topics to be covered include plant selection, planting techniques, mulching, weed control, fertilization and ways to add unique personal touches.

Formerly known as the Chinsegut Birding and Wildlife Festival, the weekend of March 22-24 will feature a variety of programs, activities and tours at several preserves in the tri-county area, including Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail sites Crews Lake Park, Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park on the Pithlachascotee River, Fort Cooper State Park and the Withlacoochee State Forest.

If you want a palm tree, but you have no idea which of the palms to select, head to the Hernando County Extension Service, 1653 Blaise Drive, Brooksville, to learn which palms are cold hardy and will give years of "tropical" beauty.

Hillsborough Co. 'Mosquito-Borne Illness' Advisory lifted

HIllsborough Co., FL-- The county Health Depatment issued an advisory back in August for residents to take precautions around mosquitos to prevent mosquito-borne illnesses. Today, the Health Department announced they have lifter the advisory. 

According to the department's surveillance data,  the risk of human infection has decreased, but they are still encouraging residents to take caution.

To protect yourself from mosquitoes, you should remember "Drain and Cover":
