As part of Hernando County's Water Awareness Series 2012-13, Hernando County Utilities Department is promoting this exciting, new learning opportunity. The Hernando County Utilities Department and Citizens for W.A.T.E.R. invite the public to the second session of the 2012-13 Hernando County Water Awareness Series to be presented Friday, November 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hernando County Utilities Department, 21030 Cortez Blvd., in Brooksville.

Tampa, FL-- Help keep Hillsborough beautiful during the Hillsborough River & Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, October 20. 

The event, coordinated by Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, currently has over 3,000 people pre-registered to particpate, but those who have not pre-registered can still contribute to the clean-up!

Just head to Lowry Park at 8 a.m. on the 20th to receive supplies and site assignments.

Two local questions on upcoming General Election ballot

Hernando County, FL-- All Hernando County Voters will be asked to mark their ballots "yes" or "no" on two questions which will appear on the November 6 General Election ballot. 

The first question is whether you favor the levy of a property tax of up to one-tenth of one mil (.1 mil) to fund the acquisition, management, and maintenance of environmentally sensitive lands, with the program to sunset on September 20, 2021.

No tax increase for SWFWMD

Tampa Bay, Florida -- Although the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) increased its operating budget by $4.5 million for the coming fiscal year, property owners will not pay a higher tax to the state agency responsible for flood control and surface and groundwater quality in the Tampa Bay area.

Tuesday night the Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board approved the 2012-13 fiscal year budget and millage (or tax) rate. The fiscal year starts Monday, Oct. 1.

Sign up for Hernando's 2012 Water Conservation Projects

Hernando County, Florida-- Time is running out to sign up for incentive-based Water Conservation Projects for this year. The Rain Sensor Installation Program and the Low Flow Toilet Replacement Program end on September 15, 2012.

The Rain Sensor program is an outdoor water saving method, promoting residential conservation by offering a $50 water bill credit for customers who have a rain sensor installed to their irrigation system.

Health advisories issued for two Hillsborough beaches

Health advisories issued for two Hillsborough beaches

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Health Department issued a health advisory for two Hillsborough beaches after  county saltwater beach monitoring results indicated high levels of enterococci bacteria.

The advisory, issued for Picnic Island in South Tampa and Cypress Point in West Tampa, should be considered a potential risk to the bathing public.

The beaches, according to the county Health Department,  will be re-sampled Monday, August 20, 2012.
