Hernando County, Florida-- With mosquito season in full swing, Hernando County's Mosquito Control Department would like to remind residents to keep their property free of mosquito-breeding habitats.

To do so, they advise you to remove any type of container which may hold even the smallest amount of rainwater.

"Mosquitoes breed in as little as 1/4" of water, and with daily rainfall, residents are encouraged to "drain and cover" any pooled water on a daily basis to avoid contributing to breeding.

Reports say the river remains below flood stage, but residents living near the river should continue to keep an eye on levels, and prepare for emergency protective measures, should they become necessary.

Sandbags, if needed, are available at the Community Center in Ridge Manor and at the Brooksville Fire Station in Brooksville.
