Hernando County to host the Long Play Trail Race | Events
Brooksville, FL -- In a press release, the Hernando County Tourism Board has announced the Long Play Race, taking place on March 3, 2013. The race consists of a 5M, a half-marathon, 33 1/3 (LP), and a 66 2/3 (Double LP) Mile race.
It will take place at Lake Townsen Park, at 28011 Lake Lindsey Road in Nobleton, just outside of Brooksville.
The Withlacoochee State Forest trails next to Lake Townsen Park site of the start and finish line are well maintained, affording miles of great running. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of running the trails, this is an opportunity for a great experience. Many of the trails are tree-canopied, offering cooling shade along beautiful and classic Florida terrain in the Withlacoochee State Forest.
Race packet pickup is scheduled for Saturday March 2, 2013 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and on Sunday at 4:45am at Lake Townsen Park. Lake Townsend Park’s amenities include running water, bathrooms, pavilions, a hose for rinsing off, electricity, and shaded parking. The park has plenty to do for the entire family with basketball courts, baseball fields, volleyball, fishing pier, and playground; you will find it a great venue for this race and registration.
The Double LP will be a double loop of the LP course, offering an easy Bag Drop location at the start and finish area. Another drop bag can be transported to a water stop located halfway through the loop. All Race finishers will receive a special album award with awards by age group in the LP Run. Jim Harnett of Tampa Races, will also present Saturday April 6, 2013 Croom Fools Trail Run, which is a series of three races, including the 6:00am 50 Mile Fools Run, the 7:00am 50K I'm Not A Fool Run, and the John Holmes 16 Mile Run at the beautiful Croom Hiking Trail located in the Withlacoochee State Forest. The main running trail is a 16 Mile loop. The 50 mile race includes three loops, the 50K has two loops, and the 16 mile has one loop to complete the course. Tammy Heon, Tourism Development Coordinator for Hernando County, expressed her enthusiasm for the forthcoming races. "The Withlacoochee State Forest is such a treasure; it’s wonderful to have these races run in Hernando County, allowing the racers to enjoy the beauty of the forest while bringing positive economic impact to the area."
Heon also noted the Tourism Bureau encourages spectators and participants alike to return at some time after the race weekend for a repeat visit on the Nature Coast. "Hernando County is home to many festival, and events during the winter and spring months. It’s a great time to experience the unique offerings of the area."
