SHINE comes to Highlands to present Medicare workshops

Highlands County, FL -- SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders), an award-winning, volunteer-based program will be making several presentations regarding Medicare, in Highlands County in June and July.

These presentations include an overview of the SHINE program and “Medicare 101” for people turning 65 this year or for those who want to know more about their benefits.

In addition, SHINE will be presenting “Bridging the Gap” - how to find low or no-cost medications when you are in the coverage gap of your Part D Prescription Drug plan. Presentations will be made:

Air pollution advisory issued in Hillsborough County for today

Riverview, Florida - The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County has issued an Air Pollution advisory due to elevated levels of the pollutant ozone.

This advisory was in effect as of 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, and remains in effect until dusk today, Wednesday, May 11.

Officials say ozone levels reached 66 parts per billion (PPB) at the E.G. Simmons Park monitoring station in Ruskin yesterday afternoon.

Spring Hill, Florida - A Spring Hill woman is touting the benefits of alkaline antioxidant ionized water, which is distributed by Home Health Advantage in Hernando County.

Wednesday at 12 p.m., a ribbon-cutting is being held in the company's honor at Superior Bank, which is located at 14211 Powell Road in Brooksville.

Home Health Advantage is a new member of the Greater Hernando Chamber of Commerce. The company distributes machines that convert regular water to the alkaline antioxidant ionized water.

Tallahassee, FL --  The Republican-led Senate passed a mandatory-ultrasound bill Thursday sponsored by Valrico Republican Senator Ronda Storms.

Former Gov. Charlie Crist vetoed a similar bill last year.

The new bill which allows women the option of viewing the unltrasound and hearing details of their fetus.
