Brandon Hospital releases guide to surviving the seasonal blues

Brandon Hospital releases guide to surviving the seasonal blues

Brandon, FL - Surviving the holidays can be much more difficult for some than just navigating through hectic crowds and finding gifts for those hard-to-please family members, according to a release by Brandon Regional Hospital. In fact, for many people, the holiday season means hard-hitting stress and depression.

Those most susceptible to holiday depression are senior citizens and women. According to a statistic from the National Institute for Mental Health, one in four women will experience severe depression at some point in life, and women are twice as likely as their male counterparts to suffer from depression.

“Seniors can have an especially difficult time with the holidays,” explains Maulik Trivedi, MD, with MindBody Integrated and Brandon Regional Hospital.  “Loss of a loved one, loneliness or a traumatic event can cause a flood of memories and depression begins to set in.  A maze of emotions can appear in a very short time leaving one depressed and anxious.”
