Tampa, FL -- Down by a touchdown with 3:28 left in the Class 8A Region 2 Championship game, Plant quarterback James Few threw an interception turning the ball over to East Lake and many thought at that point the game was over.

"I said this is not your time because I'm not ready to let you go yet, this is not the time for this to be over," recalled Plant head football coach Robert Weiner.

"Right after the interception, I came back to the sideline and coach said we were going to get the ball back and to believe in our defense," said quarterback James Few.

"He trusted in our defense, our defense got a three and out stop, and then James just took us down the field like it was no work at all," said Weiner.

Few then found Dereck Mann for the game-tying touchdown and, in overtime, Wesley Bullock would score the game winner from 10 yards out.

"As a coach, that's what you want, you want to put kids in a situation that they'll remember for the rest of their lives and for them to be their best in that moment," said Weiner.

The Panthers' secret playoff ingredient could be their experience in the post season. They've played for the state title four of the last five years.

"The teams before us obviously paved the road and we have a lot of senior leaders on this team," said Few.

"The people before us look to us like we should be the ones to keep that legacy going," said Junior wide receiver Dereck Mann.

The Plant Panthers will host Fletcher on Friday night for the State Semifinals.
