Armwood whips Leto for Callahan's 200th victory

Tampa, FL-- Armwood High whipped Leto High, 49-0, for head coach Sean Callahan's 200th career victory.

The FHSAA does not recognize all of Callahan's victories during his 23 years at Armwood, because of the residency violations over the past 2 years.

Armwood senior quarterback Darryl Richardson completed 16 of 24 passes, for 302 yards, and 5 touchdowns.  Senior receiver Alvin Bailey caught 3 of those scoring tosses.

The Hawks improve to 3-1.  The Falcons fall to 0-4.


Hillsborough holds off Strawberry Crest, 32-24

Dover, Florida - Strawberry Crest already has a victory this season over Plant City, and a win at home against district foe Hillsborough would continue to build the Charger's confidence.

Sophomore quarterback Tristan Hyde had four touchdown passes for Strawberry Crest (2-2, 0-1), but Hillsborough's Nigel Harris countered with 145-yards rushing and three scores.

Hillsborough (3-0, 1-0) jumped out to a 24-12 first quarter lead, and were able to hold off the Chargers to remain unbeaten.

Robinson slams Jesuit 31-10

Tampa, Fl - Jesuit was looking to spoil Robinson head coach Mike DePue's final regular season appearance at Alumni Field, but the Knights were not to be denied.

The Knight's (3-0, 2-0) scored two touchdowns early in the first quarter, and never looked back, easily defeating the Tigers 31-10, and taking early control of the district.

On Robinson's first possession, sophomore Michael Duclos scored on a 41-yard run, and less then three minutes later, senior Martin Ruiz went up the middle for a 16-yard score. 

Hillsborough defeats Newsome 37-23

Tampa, Fl - The Hillsborough Terriers (2-0) recovered from a slow first half, finishing strong, as they defeated the Newsome Wolves (0-3) 37-23.

Trailing 16-15 at the half, Hillsborough running back Nigel Harris got his legs going, scoring two rushing touchdowns, helping the Terriers enjoy a big comeback win.

Armwood blanks Tampa Bay Tech 30-0

Tampa, FL - The Armwood Hawks were not about to lose two games in a row, and their defense rose to the occasion, as they dominated the Tampa Bay Tech Titans 30-0, giving the Titans their first loss of the season.

The Hawks defense limited the Titans to only 8 yards passing and 109 yards on the ground, and they didn't allow the Titans to get past Armwood's 20 yard line.

Hawks offense also played well.   Quarterback Darryl Richardson ran for one score and connected with Alvin Bailey for another.

Armwood upset at home by American Heritage

Seffner, FL - Armwood HS lost a regular season game, on the field, for the first time since 2009, 36-28, to Delray Beach American Heritage.

After Armwood tied the game at 7-7 in the 2nd quarter, Heritage outscored the Hawks 26-7.

QB Darryl Richardson rushed for a touchdown, and passed for 2.  The Hawks were held to 51 yards rushing.

American Heritage is the defending 3A state champion.

Bloomingdale beats Strawberry Crest 28-27

Valrico, FL - The Bloomingdale Bulls got their first win of the season with a 28-27 home victory over the Strawberry Crest Chargers.

Bloomingdale quarterback Isaiah McIntyre, making his first varsity start, had a solid game, completing 11-of-11 passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

Running back Eugene Baker also rushed for two scores, as the Bulls (1-1) finished with 216 yards on the ground.

Strawberry Crest (1-1) scored 27 points in the first half, but were held scoreless in the second half.
