Plant rallies to beat Alonso, 55-49

Tampa, FL-- Plant High rallied to hold off the Alonso Ravens, 55-49.

Alonso jumped out to a 5-point first-half lead behind the shooting of Efren Urina, who had 10 points in the first half.

The Panthers came back to tie the game at halftime behind the play of Anthony Haynes, who led Plant with 20 points.

They opened the second half with a 7-0 run to ice the game for the Panthers.


Plant wins 8A State Championship

Orlando, Fla. -- The Plant Panthers claimed the 8A State Title on Saturday night beating out Miramar 31-20.

The Panthers are no stranger to the title game making the trip 5 of the last 6 years and winning 4 times.

In the 1st quarter, Wesley Bullock broke off a 21-yard touchdown run to put Plant up 7-0.

Miramar would tie up the score at 7-7 in the first, but Plant answered as quarterback James Few rushed 8 yards for the score. Plant led 24-7 at the half.

Armwood wins 6A State Title

Orlando, FL -- Big plays down the stretch lifted the Armwood Hawks to victory over Miami Central, 40-31, in the Citrus Bowl.

Armwood scored on two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the first quarter to lead Miami Central, 16-14, at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Alvin Bailey connected with Wade Edwards for a 32-yard touchdown reception giving the Hawks a 23-14 lead.

Miami Central answered immediately on the ensuing kickoff, returning it 99 yards for a touchdown to pull within 2, down 23-21.

HOT 101.5 HS Football Player of the Week

Tampa, FL-- The HOT 101.5 high school football player of the week, is Plant senior kicker Grant Van Aman.

In last week's state semifinal win over Neptune Beach Fletcher HS, Van Aman kicked 4 field goals... 3 of them from 40 yards out or better.

"I knew once we got to the 30 yard line... The 35... We were in range for me," Grant Van Aman told 10 News.  "When I heard coach call my name, call field goal... I saw Trey go out there, I was ready... It was time to get focused on the kick, and do it like I did in practice."

Historic win for CDS wrestling team

Carrollwood -- Congratulations to the Carrollwood Day School wrestling team!

The team won its first game in team history Tusday night at Seminole High School.

All five guys won their first round matches and took 2 out of 5 in the second.

Overall, the boys went 7 out of 10 for the team's historic win.

Plant defense dominant in 26-7 win over Fletcher

Tampa, FL-- Plant High's defense dominated Fletcher High of Neptune Beach, 26-7, to advance to the 8A State Championship game.

Plant will play Miramar in the 8A Final, next Saturday at 7pm, in Orlando.

Plant kicker Grant Van Aman booted 4 field goals, 3 of them over 42 yards.

After Mike Tate and Wesley Bullock scored second-half touchdowns, the Panthers had a 26-0 lead over Fletcher.

Plant takes a 13-1 record in the state title game.


Plant's dramatic comeback propels them to State Semis

Tampa, FL -- Down by a touchdown with 3:28 left in the Class 8A Region 2 Championship game, Plant quarterback James Few threw an interception turning the ball over to East Lake and many thought at that point the game was over.

"I said this is not your time because I'm not ready to let you go yet, this is not the time for this to be over," recalled Plant head football coach Robert Weiner.

"Right after the interception, I came back to the sideline and coach said we were going to get the ball back and to believe in our defense," said quarterback James Few.
