Armwood beats Gainesville 17-14

The Armwood Hawks are just two wins away from another state championship. Friday night at Gainesville, Armwood had to come from behind to beat the Purple Hurricanes 17-14.

Gainesville led it 14-3 at the half.  Nick Feeley's field goal was Armwoods only score of the half. But Armwood quarterback Alvin Bailey turned it up in the second half. Bailey was 14 of 22 for 192 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Lakeland beats Gaither 42-14 to advance to state semi-finals

Playoff football in Lakeland tonight. The Dreadnaughts hosted the Gaither Cowboys and this one was all Lakeland.

The Dreads led it 14-0 after the first quarter. Lakeland quarterback Raheem Davis ran for one touchdown and threw for another as Lakeland led it 21-7 at the half.

Gaither scored its only first half touchdown on defense while Lakelands Forrest Cunningham enjoyed a two touchdown night.

Gaither's Shug Oyegunle scored a 4-yard touchdown in the 4th quarter, but this one was all Lakeland, 42-14 the final.

Plant beats East Lake in overtime 28-21

There was great playoff football at East Lake High School tonight when the Eagles hosted the Plant Panthers.  This one went to overtime before Plant could celebrate a trip to the state semi-finals.

On the Plant sideline, Panther alumni and current Florida State running back James Wilder Jr. scored first on a 56-yard touchdown from Aaron Banks to Austin Roberts to lead 6-0.

Berkeley shuts out Ft. Meade to reach semis

Tampa, Fla. -- Berkeley Prep had Ft. Meade circled on the schedule, even though the Buccaneers and Miners did not play each other in the regular season.  Both teams expected to face off in a Class 3A region final.

The matchup came to fruition, and Berkeley Prep got redemption with a 21-0 win over Ft. Meade.

Nelson Agholor scored on touchdown runs of 8 and 2 yards to give the host Buccaneers a 14-0 halftime lead.

Destin Nichols wrapped up the scoring the third quarter when he found Vic Pelligrino in the back of the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown.

Plant beats Dr. Phillips 49-13 in Regional Semi-Final

The Plant Panthers, looking for another state championship, played Dr. Phillips in the Regional Semi-Final. They rolled over Dr. Phillips 49-13.

Wesley Bullock got the scoring started with a 5-yard run to put Plant on the board 7-0.

It was another big night for Plant quarterback James Few.  He threw for 120 yards and 4 touchdowns, the longest a 44-yard strike to Dereck Mann.

Antonio Crawford returned a kickoff 98 yards for another Plant touchdown.

Armwood shuts out Hillsborough 23-0

Seffner, FL - You know the old saying, "If at first you don't suceed, don't try it again against Armwood.   At least that's the way the Armwood Hawks say it.   And after receiving a wake-up call last week against Lakewood Ranch, Armwood was not in the mood to be charitable with Hillsborough.    

Jesuit beats Robinson 35-20

High school playoffs at Jesuit, the Tigers hosting Robinson in the regional semi-finals.  Jesuit held off the Knights 35-20.

Jesuit led it 7-0 when Robinsons Byron Pringle returned a kickoff 99 yards for the touchdown to tie it at 7.  The first of two touchdowns over 90 yards on the night by Pringle.

But Jesuit was dominat on defense, forcing a fumble and late in the second quarter Tiger quarterback Tommy Evald threw a 35 yard touchdown to Bryce Walker.  That put Jesuit on top for good 21-13 the score at the half.
