Berkeley Prep volleyball wins state championship

Kissimmee, FL-- The Berkeley Prep Bucs volleyball team won its 3rd straight state championship, defeating Bishop Moore of Orlando in 4 games.

For Berkeley, it's the 15th state championship overall for longtime head coach Randy Dagostino.


Berkeley Prep to play for 3rd straight volleyball title

Kissimmee, FL-- The Berkeley Prep volleyball team will play for its 3rd straight state championship, Thursday night, against Bishop Moore Catholic of Orlando.

The Bucs won their semi-final match Wednesday, defeating Cardinal Gibbons of Ft. Lauderdale in 4 games.

In addition to its possible 3rd straight state title, it would be Berkeley's 15th championship in its history.


Newsome defeats Bloomingdale 55-16

Valrico, Fl - The Newsome Wolves ended their season, Thursday night, with a 55-16 victory over the Bloomingdale Bulls.

Newsome's junior quarterback Will Worth rushed for 226 yards and two touchdowns.   Worth also threw a 24-yard touchdown to Aaron West.

Newsome (6-4) finished the season with a three game winning streak, including a big upset win over Plant City, that knocked the Raiders out of the playoffs.

Jesuit wins 12th consecutive over TC

Tampa, Fla. -- Tampa Catholic was treating their rivalry game with Jesuit like the playoffs because the Crusaders are not headed to the postseason for the first since 2004.

Jesuit had no sympathy.  The Tigers beat their rivals 27-10 to send the Crusaders home with a two-game losing streak to end the regular season.

Tampa Catholic started strong.  The Crusaders drove 70 yards capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Zach Dyer.

Jesuit followed that with their own scoring drive, capped by an 18-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Eveld to Reggie Davis.

Agholor runs wild as Berkeley wins district

Tampa, FL-- Senior running back Nelson Agholor rushed for 312 yards, and a pair of touchdowns, to lead Berkeley Prep to a 28-0 win over Tampa Catholic, and the district championship.

Agholor broke open a 7-0 game in the third quarter, with a pair of touchdown runs... one for 79 yards, and another for 77 yards.  His total of 312 yards came on 25 carries.

Armwood shuts out Plant 21-0

Seffner, Fl - It was a battle of Hillsborough County titans.   It was a battle of unbeaten teams.   It was the annual battle between the Plant Panthers and the Armwood Hawks.

It was also a defensive struggle as Armwood shut out Plant for the second consecutive year.   At the half, the Hawks held a slim 3-0 lead, thanks to a 45-yard field goal from Nick Feely.

After winning the opening coin toss, Armwood choose to defer, a strategy that proved to be very effective.

Berkeley Prep blanks CCC, 21-0

Clearwater, Fla. -- Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis spent the past two nights recruiting in the Tampa Bay area. Friday's focus was Berkeley Prep athlete Nelson Agholor.

Agholor did not disappoint as he accounted for all three Buccaneer touchdowns in a 21-0 shutout of district rival Clearwater Central Catholic.

Berekely Prep scored on their first two possessions, capped by Agholor touchdown runs of 5 and 3 yards.
