Ronda Storms to run for property appraiser | News
Tampa, Florida -- State Senator Ronda Storms (R-Valrico) is announcing she will run for Hillsborough Property Appraiser. This comes in light of the porn scandal involving longtime Property Appraiser Rob Turner.
"To hear these occurrences are very shocking and appalling, so we need to get back to the business of the property appraisers office. And I wanted to say we are going to hold you accountable," said Storms at a News Conference Friday.
Turner has admitted this week that he had dated the former HR director in the office, Carolyn Filippone, when they were both single. However he continued to send her pornography and sexual messages even after he was married.
After the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission rejected Filippone's complaint, Turner fired her, saying she lied to a federal agency. Filippone is expected to sue both Turner and the Property Appraiser's Office.
Storms, a former Hillsborough County Commissioner, would have been term limited in two yearsin the Florida Senate. In addition to being an elected official, Storms is an attorney and former English teacher.
Also in the race is former Representative Bob "Coach" Henriquez, a Democrat.
Sources tell us the Hillsborough Republican Party was looking for a strong challenger to Turner, who is also a Republican. Turner has said he plans to stay in office and to seek re-election because he has done a good job with the office.
Storms said that may be true but "I'm going to give them (the voters) the opportunity to make that judgment."
