News

Tampa, Florida -- UPDATE: The victim in the Town 'N' Country overnight homicide has been identified as 28-year-old Orlando Rangel-Benitez.

Officials declared him dead at an apartment in Country Square Court early Tuesday morning. They later released that a stab wound to the chest may have been his cause of death.

Initial reports said the woman who called 911 to report the stabbing was taken into questioning regarding the situation. They have since said they believe the woman, identified as 35-year-old Luz Maribel Myers, stabbed Rangel-Benitez once in the chest during an argument.

Officials also say Myers was the victim's live in girlfriend.

Myers has been arrested and charged with Manslaughter with a Weapon.

Despite deputies and EMS attempts to save the man, he died from his injuries.

When asked about what the two were arguing over, Col. Donna Lusczynski said, "At this point, we don't know what it was about or what it was concerning. We responded to that, at which time we found the individual wounded inside."

It is not clear what the relationship is between the man and woman. The woman is being questioned at HCSO.

Deputies are also interviewing neighbors in their effort to piece together what happened. Names will not be released until the family is notified.

The investigation is not causing any traffic closures along Pinehurst. Residents are able to come and go if they parked in the crime scene area.

Country Square is the same apartment complex where Deputy Miguel Galarza was grazed in the neck by a bullet while responding to a call in 2009. HCSO says he is among the deputies responding to this morning's call.
