Bloomindale Library expansion project to start soon

Construction is set to begin on the Bloomindale Regional Public Library expansion. The library will maintain its regular hours, but there may be some inconveniences during the renovations. The project is expected to be completed in December.

Here's the release from the county with information on the project:

The Bloomingdale Regional Public Library, located at 1906 Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico, will begin to undergo its much anticipated expansion in February 2013. The project will add approximately 10,000 square feet of space to the existing library and will provide the following improvements:

  • A new, larger children’s room
  • Additional space for technology and teen activities
  • An additional, large community room for library programs and public meetings
  • Additional seating for quiets study
  • A bigger Friends of the Library Book Store

What to expect during construction

  • The library will maintain its regular hours of operation throughout construction: Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Thursday 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Sunday 12:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Traffic patterns into, out-of, and through the parking lot may be redirected at times to accommodate various phases of the construction process, and some parking spaces may be restricted for safety.
  • Some portions of the library will be partitioned off and some shelving and collections will be relocated to ensure safety for library patrons while interior renovations are made.
  • Drive-up book returns will remain accessible during most of the construction process. For safety, access to the book returns may be restricted during the initial phase of the project when the front portion of the parking lot is closed for installation of new sewer lines.
  • Construction activities will create a noisier environment than is typical at the library, but this will be minimized when possible.
