Cops: Multiple suspects involved in triple shooting

TAMPA, Florida -- Tampa police are investigating a triple shooting in Tampa. They say they responded to 2906 East 22nd Avenue around 9 p.m. after reports that shots had been fired along the dead end street.

Police say when they arrived they found three men had been hit. The trio had been hanging out in front of one of the victim's homes when a group of suspects walked up and fired at them before running away. The suspects got into a car parked nearby which took off.

26 year old Dexter Jermane Gardner was shot to death. His body was found in the courtyard of the duplex. 41-year-old Thomas Causei was shot and his body was found nearby. He was rushed to the hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

26-year-old Bertran Sampson was also shot. He ran home. When police found him a few blocks away he was rushed to the hospital. His injuries are considered minor.

Detectives do not believe this is a random act of violence.

Early Wednesday morning police were still searching for the suspects. Tampa Police Spokeswoman, Laura McElroy, says they don't have a motive in the crime yet.

Meanwhile Dexter Gardner's  family members were notified of his death at the scene. One woman passed out while another cried out in disbelief. Her friends tried to console her as she collapsed into the middle of the roadway which is right across the street from Wilson Funeral home.

McElroy said detectives were busy interviewing witnesses to the crime and gathering forensic evidence. McElroy says, "We've had multiple 9-1-1 calls coming in with information - a lot of witnesses to interview-so this is a very active scene at this point. We know that we're looking for multiple suspects from what we've learned from the witnesses. But at this point we're still working to put together the description of those suspects."

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the Tampa Police Department at 813 231-6130.
