Bay Area arrests, Lt. Gov resignation linked to same organization | News
SPRING HILL, Florida - The arrest of two men in Hernando County and one man in Pasco County are linked to the same company cited in the resignation of Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll.
John Nicolas Cucciniello, 46, of Spring Hill is charged with racketeering, possessing a slot machine, operating a lottery and gambling establishment, and money laundering of more than one hundred grand.
Anthony Alascia, 52, also of Spring Hill, faces similar charges for their part of a statewide operation into Internet cafes that were offering more than sweepstakes winnings.
Both reportedly operated the GinLin Internet Sweepstakes Café at 3270 Commercial Way in Spring Hill. They also had ties to Allied Veterans Association, an organization under investigation by the feds, after it was discovered that proceeds allegedly lined the pockets of owners instead of going to charity.
Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll, who did PR work with the company, resigned on Wednesday after it was revealed that she was questioned by investigators about her role in Allied Veterans Association, which owns dozens of Internet Sweepstakes cafes across the state.
Customers buy Internet time or phone cards that include codes that can lead to cash prizes.
Charles Bartlett of Hudson was also arrested as part of the statewide sting operation after he allegedly refused to honor several cease and desist letters sent by authorities. The sheriff's office said the 69-year-old operated Achievers Internet Sweepstakes off US 19 in Holiday.
It is not clear if Carroll ever had direct contact with any of the local men that were involved in the massive gambling scandal.
