2013 'Dump the Pump' Day deemed a success

Hernando County, Florida-- The county's participation in "Dump The Pump Day" on June 20 has officially been called a success, Hernando County's Transportation Planning staff said Wednesday. 

10 News initially told you about the June 20th event after officials announced their plan to encourage senior citizens, and other locals alike, to save money and travel safely by using public transportation.

After their announcement, Transportation Planning Staff says THE Bus' ridership was up 42.8 percent for 'Dump the Pump' Day- with 467 passenger trips on the fixed-route, as opposed to the average daily passenger trips of 327.

Regular one-way fares for THE Bus are $1.25, and reduced fares of .60 cents are offered for the elderly, persons with a disability, Medicare card holders and Students. Children ages six and under ride free, and students also have access to a $37.50 summer pass.
