Tampa, Florida -- A carpooling program is encouraging ride-sharing friends to develop an innovative idea as they reduce traffic on the Interstate 275 construction zone between the Howard Frankland Bridge and the Hillsborough River.

The Florida Department of Transportation and Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority are partnering with Cox Media radio station 97X, which is providing a $10,000 grand prize for the winning "startup" idea.

The program is called Startup 275.

Startup 275 is open exclusively to commuters who travel the 4.2-mile stretch of interstate between Westshore and downtown Tampa at least 12 days per month.

FDOT is currently widening the road and making other improvements at a cost $215 million.

Participants must form a carpool team and create a novel idea, including something that benefits the community, the environment or education. It could be a small business, a short film, or the next big app.

Carpoolers are also eligible to win $25 gift certificates.

Tampa's Dunn&Co. is promoting the campaign, which ends Nov. 30.
