Hernando County Deputy arrested for child abuse

Hernando County, Florida -- A Hernando County Detention Deputy has been arrested for child abuse after burning a child with a hairdryer.

On January 17, deputies responded to a call at Spring Hill Regional Hospital regarding a 3-year-old boy with severe burn marks.

Upon arrival deputies noted the injuries did not appear to be accidental and began to further investigate the matter.

During the investigation the deputy in question, Cody Marrone, initially said that the child caused the injuries to himself. However, Marrone later admitted to using the hairdryer to burn the child on several parts of his body as a form of punishment because the child would not let him sleep.

Marrone was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
