Deer gores woman's eye at facility where lion escaped

Spring Hill, FL -- A 75-year-old woman was gored in the eye Friday morning by a deer at the Survival Outreach Sanctuary, the same facility where a lion temporarily escaped last week.

A spokesperson for Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission confirms the injured woman, Sylvia Fernandez, is the sister of Judy Watson, the owner of the sanctuary.

Possible sinkhole opens up at Spring Hill home

Spring Hill, Florida -- Hernando County deputies were called to a home on Lynnhaven Road in regards to a possible sinkhole.

Upon arrival, deputies located a hole in the ground that measured approximately 20 feet by 25 feet and appeared to be about 20 feet deep.

Crews will be back out the today filling in the affected areas.

Driver killed in tanker fire on SR 62 in Hardee County

Hardee County,  Florida -- The driver of a tanker carrying over 8,500 gallons of fuel was killed after it crashed and caught on fire on State Road 62.

Authorities say the accident happened around 2 p.m. and residents within a half-mile radius of the accident have been evacuated.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the tanker was heading east on SR 62 approaching Moye Road when, for an unknown reason, the tanker traveled off the roadway and onto the south shoulder. It then overturned and hit a guardrail exploding into flames.

Snapchat updates app, apologizes

SAN FRANCISCO -- Snapchat on Thursday made changes to its app to address privacy concerns.

The Venice Beach-based service will now allow people to opt out of linking a phone number with their username. The option is available in the app's settings.

Snapchat enables people to send disappearing photo and video messages.

Owner of escaped lioness facing charges

Spring Hill, Florida -- The owner of an exotic animal sanctuary, Judy Watson, is facing a $500 fine, and possibly jail time, after a lioness escaped from its enclosure.

Florida Fish and Wildlife cited the owner of Survival Outreach Sanctuary with "improper caging."

Pasco karate instructor among arrested for fraud

St. Petersburg, Florida - Louis Hurtado, the owner of VIP Karate in Odessa, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Social Security fraud.

"It's having an effect on me as his student, as a man, as a father, as a human being. It's tremendously devastating at this moment," said Joseph Mentor, a chief instructor at VIP Karate.

Hurtado, a retired New York City police officer, claimed to be disabled while collecting $470,395.20 between 1989 and 2013, even though he can be seen in instructional videos as a 6th degree black belt.
