New president takes helm at South Florida State College

AVON PARK, Florida-- On July 1, 2013, Dr. Thomas C. Leitzel became the fourth president of South Florida State College.

The son of a United Methodist minister, Dr. Leitzel grew up near Harrisburg, Pa. He credits mentors throughout his life with steering him into education, beginning with an experience in a high school law class.

Not everyone pleased with new Adamo Drive Mural

Tampa, FL - It may be the biggest mural in the city but not everyone is excited about the new Adamo Drive Mural. Several members of the GaYBOR District Coalition tell 10 News they're not happy that the mural makes no reference to the GLBT community in Ybor City.

In fact Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Becker says he thinks omitting any reference to the gay community was a "miss."

Entries needed for student art display

Brooksville, FL -- The Hernando County Community Relations Office is looking for entries from middle and high school students for an art display depicting the Hernando County Courthouse.

The submitted entries will be displayed during the Courthouse Centennial Celebration to be held in conjunction with the City of Brooksville's Founders Week, October 11th and 12th. The Community Relations Office suggests students use oil, pastel, pen, pencil, or charcoal, but all 2-dimensional mediums are encouraged. Entries must be submitted by September 13, 2013.

Joshua Grosso to perform at Spotlight Awards Thursday

Tampa, Florida Winner of the national 2012National High School Musical Theater Awards, Joshua Grosso, will perform at the Patel Conservatory’s 2013 Spotlight Awards on Thursday!

Joshua represented the Straz Center, and the state of Florida, at the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City last year and earned the title of Jimmy Award winner and a $10,000 scholarship. He is now a sophomore studying musical theater at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama.

Protest held to stop Bloomingdale Big Box store

Brandon, Florida-- Residents lined Bloomingdale Avenue on Tuesday to protest plans to build a Walmart and hundreds of apartments next to the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library.

Protesters are concerned about traffic, unsafe intersections, school overcrowding, environmental devastation and decreasing property values.
