Hillsborough County Animal Services celebrates justice for "Casper"

Hillsborough County, FL -- A Hillsborough County judge upheld sentencing in one of Florida's most memorable animal cruelty cases, ordering a Tampa man to serve the full sentence he earlier received.

As Animal Services staff and dedicated members of the animal community looked on, Wilmer Fernandez was led from the courtroom to begin serving 15 months in the Florida State Prison system for the willful and intentional starvation and mistreatment of a family pet.

The case began in November of 2008.  Authorities serving an unrelated warrant in the Town 'N Country neighborhood discovered a severely emaciated white boxer in the backyard of the home Fernandez shared with his girlfriend, Aixa Rodriguez, and their children.
