AVON PARK - Avon Park won't have a public safety director anytime soon, but may be getting a new fire chief. After much back and forth discussion, the Avon Park City Council voted 5-0 against hiring a public safety director. Instead, they directed City Manager Bruce Behrens to advertise for a new fire chief at its meeting Monday night.

According to NewsSun.com, Councilwoman Brenda Gray asked what the potential savings would be if the council pursued a safety director.
