Hillsborough Superintendent to discuss Common Core Standards

Tampa, Florida--The Tampa Downtown Partnership is taking its Debriefing Series to School with a session featuring Hillsborough School Superintendent MaryEllen Elia. 

The Superintendent will discuss the Common Core Standards from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on September 25th at Jackson's Bistro, 601 South Harbour Island Blvd. in Downtown Tampa.

Prior to the discussion there will be a networking session from 7:30 to 8.

"Celebrate Fall" Gala Event to benefit Hernando County educational organizations

Hernando County, Florida-- The upcoming 2013 Celebrate Fall Gala will benefit two organizations that work to better Hernando County's education system.

Both the Chamber Education & Training Association (CETA) and Communities In Schools (CIS) will benefit from the black tie optional, Friday evening affair- where for $50, guests will enjoy light appetizers, a three course gourmet bufft, vegetables, sides, a beverage and dessert.

The first day of the 2013-2014 school year is next Monday, August 19, 2013.

AVON PARK, Florida- Hey South Florida State College students! Do you have an interest in pursuing a career in child care? If so, you may be interested in the Corporate and Community Education Department's new Introduction to Child Care class coming up this fall.

The 40-hour class will cover child care facility rules and regulations, health, safety, and nutrition, identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect, child growth and development, behavioral observation and screening, and special needs appropriate practices.

WACHULA, Florida- A pair of local 11th graders have been selected to take an all-expense-paid trip to the nation's capital, courtesy of the Peace River Electric Cooperative.

The 11th graders, Shakera Latimore of Bradenton and Savannah Miller of Wauchula were chosen among students across the 10 counties PRECO serves. Both submitted an essay, and were chosen as the top applicants from our area.
