“Walk to School Day” May Slow Traffic

Polk County, FL-- An annual “Walk to School Day” event will take place across Polk County on Wednesday, October 3.  While all schools do not participate, motorists are advised to be alert to the likelihood of more pedestrian traffic and add time to their trips through school zones between 7 and 8 a.m. Traffic may be stopped along some roads to accommodate large groups.

Avon Park, Florida -- Have a love for the visual arts? Have an interest in Florida history, archaeology, or culture? For an enriching educational experience, become a docent for South Florida State College's Museum of Florida Art and Culture. 

The museum will hold a docent meeting and lunch for new and returning docents, Friday, Sept. 28, 11:30 a.m., at the SFSC Highlands Campus.

Hillsborough schools to host college nights for high school students

Hillsborough schools to host college nights for high school students

Tampa, Florida – The Hillsborough County Public Schools Guidance Services department is hosting four college nights for all high school students.

"High School students and their families will have the opportunity to visit with more than 100 college, university, and military academy representatives about preparing for college, applying to college, and the financial aid and scholarship processes," Hillsborough County Public School representatives explain in a release about the events.

The dates and locations are as follows. All meetings start at 6 p.m.:

$5K scholarship up for grabs for Hillsborough, Pasco students

The Right FitT Foundation has announced its first annual $5,000 scholarship for Tampa-area high school students.

To qualify, students must be a US Citizen, a resident of Pasco or Hillsborough counties, and have a weighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must also attend one of the Foundation's free college admission and financial aid classes. Two will be offered in September at the Jimmie Keel Library which students can sign up for at the link above.

Tampa, Florida -- On Tuesday, Sept. 11, Buccaneers RB LeGarrette Blount, LB Lavonte David, LB Dekoda Watson, WR Mike Williams, Buccaneers cheerleaders and Captain Fear joined students, teachers and Hillsborough County School officials at Foster Elementary School in Tampa to celebrate the third Buccaneers Fitness Zone.
