New president takes helm at South Florida State College

AVON PARK, Florida-- On July 1, 2013, Dr. Thomas C. Leitzel became the fourth president of South Florida State College.

The son of a United Methodist minister, Dr. Leitzel grew up near Harrisburg, Pa. He credits mentors throughout his life with steering him into education, beginning with an experience in a high school law class.

BARTOW, FL - Polk Transit and the Learning Resource Center of Lakeland have partnered to provide a transportation opportunity that will help Polk County students maximize their learning potential.

The universal access agreement allows all LRC students to ride Citrus Connection and Winter Haven Area Transit buses free by simply showing their ID badge.

Sebring, Florida -- The Career Academy at South Florida State College students were honored for academic excellence during the academy's annual awards assembly in the SFSC University Center, Highlands Campus.

Each year, faculty honor students who exhibit integrity, maturity, and exemplary qualities that go beyond academic standards. Students were honored for citizenship, outstanding attendance, perfect attendance, honor roll, and superlatives.

Get kids ready for school for VPK

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Enroll kids in the Summer VPK Program. 

The Summer VPK Program is a free, voluntary, 300 insturctional-hour program designed to prepare Florida's 4-year-olds for successful entry into kindergarten. 

In Hillsborough County, the 2013 Summer VPK Program is delivered at certain public elementary schools and by a select number of approved, private child care providers. A list of schools and private providers can be found here.
