TODAY: Free McDonald's breakfast for FCAT takers

Tampa, Florida -- Students can grab a free meal to fill their bellies before Monday's FCAT tests.


McDonald's restaurants across the Tampa Bay area will serve any 3rd-11th grader a free breakfast on Monday, April 11, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.


The meal includes an Egg McMuffin sandwich, Apple Dippers, and either lowfat milk or orange juice.


Inside the McDonald's at W. Waters Ave. and Hanley Rd. in Town 'n' Country, managers have hung balloons carrying the colors of each of the area's schools, along with banners wishing test-takers good luck.

Star Education student arrested for sex with a minor

Spring Hill, FL -- An 18-year-old Star Education student was arrested at his school after police revealed he had sex with a 14-year-old girl.

The Brooksville Police Department arrived at Star Education on Tuesday, April 5 and arrested William McCollum of Brooksville, in reference to an incident that occurred on Feb. 1, 2011, in the area of Union Street and Wood Drive.

Tampa, FL -- Every once in a while we get to be a part of something that we know makes a difference. 

On Sunday, January 27, 4th and 5th graders from Westchase, Deer Park, Lowry and Davis Elementary schools got to run beside athletes down Bayshore for the last two miles of the Gasparilla Half Marathon. 

The kids, part of the After School Run Challenge at the Northwest Hillsborough YMCA, had completed an 8-week training program that had them doing everything from running, obstacle courses, Zumba and even Spin classes.

Wauchula, Florida -- Two 11th grade students from local high schools will participate in the week-long, all-expense-paid “Youth Tour to Washington, DC” event, next June.  Every year since 2007, Peace River Electric Cooperative (PRECO), Wauchula, FL, has sponsored students in the national Youth Tour program, making it available to students at 16 selected schools in their 10-county service territory (Brevard, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Manatee, Osceola, Polk and Sarasota).

Matthew Davis, Southeast High School, Manatee County and Harley Russum, Mulberry High School, Polk County, will attend Youth Tour along with 1,500 fellow students from electric cooperatives around the nation.

Berkeley celebrates Academic Team Champions

Town N Country, Florida -- Berkeley Preparatory School recently congratulated the school's outstanding student athletes from the winter sports season:

Berkeley earned three Academic Team Champion Awards by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) during the winter sports season.  Berkeley’s boys basketball (3.54), girls basketball (3.86) and boys wrestling (3.47) teams all earned the highest cumulative GPA in their sport and classification.

In addition to the three champions, Berkeley had two teams finish in third place. Boys soccer (3.48) and girls soccer (3.67) had the third-highest cumulative GPA in their respective sports. Berkeley has won seven Academic Team Champion Awards in 2010-11 as girls cross country, girls golf, boys swimming and diving and volleyball were honored at the conclusion of the fall sports season.  Congratulations Bucs for your success both on and off the playing field!
