After-school activities canceled

Tampa, FL -- Hillsborough County Public Schools has canceled all activities tonight, Thursday, March 31, due to inclement weather moving through the area.

That includes all athletic events (indoor and outdoor), HOST, evening meetings, trainings, night school, and any other activity at a school or district site.  Charter schools will make decisions about closings individually.

Final days of Woodbridge book sale

Town N Country, Florida -- The final day of the Woodbridge Elementary Book Sale is Friday, April 1.

The sale will be taking place in the media center for students and parents of Woodbridge Elementary, and members of the community can even buy books as well. Some are priced as low as $1.

The book sale will be open from 7:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Woodbridge Elementary is located at 8301 Woodbridge Boulevard in Town N Country.

Brandon, FL -- Parents in Brandon know the Hillsborough County school calendar has become a controversial issue. 


Today, Superintendent MaryEllen Elia and the Board will discuss the next two years of school calendars.

Citrus Park, FL -- Students at Citrus Park Elementary School spent part of the afternoon outside posing for a little piece of history on Friday, March 25. 


The school is 100 years old this year and teachers, staff and students put on their red shirts and best smiles for the Centennial school picture.

Carrollwood -- Third and fourth grade students from Carrollwood's Independent Day School-Corbett Campus are learning about the law and lawmakers in person. 


The group traveled to Tallahassee Tuesday.  They got to meet Governor Rick Scott and he even posed for a picture with them.

Brandon, FL -- The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce will host an “Educational Update” Luncheon giving the community the opportunity to hear about educational programs and insight from MaryEllen Elia, Superintendent, Hillsborough County Schools.

Superintendent Elia will discuss her role as Superintendent and cover the following topics as well; innovative educational programs, local testing scores, The Gates Foundation – Empowering Teachers Grant, Governor’s transition team and much more. Time will be made for a question and answer session.

SFCC opens walking trail featuring endangered plants

Avon Park, FL -- The South Florida Community College Museum of Florida Art and Culture with the Archbold Biological Station presents its first outdoor environmental art and science exhibition, Nine Natives: Wildflower Wayside Shrine.

The exhibition, located on College Drive opposite the SFCC Highlands Campus, features a walking trail through the scrub habitat with shrine boxes installed along the way.

Each shrine box is dedicated to an endemic or endangered plant species found on the Lake Wales Ridge. The project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
