Reflections of an Artistic Marriage on display

Avon Park, Florida -- South Florida State College's Museum of Florida Art and Culture is presenting Reflections from an Artistic Marriage: Watercolors, Oils, and Batiks, Phil Fisher and Natalie Guess. The exhibition will be on display through Dec. 1.

Phil Fisher's colorful and vibrant paintings capture the moment. With a visual preference for landscape, most of his work is done "en plein air." Natalie Guess paints using the rare art form known as batik - painting with hot, clear wax and color dyes. The natural environment of Florida is reflected in her work.

That’s why the exciting new program at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Art’s Patel Conservatory  - Conservatory To-Go - has folks in the field of education energized.

“I know this is improving our school and tremendously benefiting our students,” says Thom Laux, principal at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School (MHR), the first school to sign up for the program.

The event is free and open to the public.

New grants available for kids to attend Hillsborough after school programs

Hillsborough County, FL-- Hillsborough County has received a grant from the National 4-H Council and the MetLife Foundation to pay for 33 fourth and fifth graders to attend the Rec2Six after school program at three County recreation centers. Rec2Six provides fun, fitness and educational adventures for children in grades K-5, Monday – Friday, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Students and educators will participate in a theater workshop -- getting fun, hands-on theater experience designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They will take a tour of the fascinating five-theater David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts complex, the largest performing arts venue south of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
