Hernando Co., FL-- The Hernando County Property Appraiser's Office is seeking a volunteer for assistance with its Geographic Information System (GIS) project.

They say computer experience - Arc GIS -  is preferred, and the individual could expect to contribute up to 30 hours per week as their schedule permits.

Damaged cables cause service interruption to local Verizon customers

Brandon, Florida -- Verizon technicians have been working since Thursday to restore service to Brandon area customers after two underground cables were damaged by a contractor placing conduit for new traffic signals on Hwy 60 and King Avenue.

Verizon says the services affected include phone and/or Internet for about 300 customers in the area after the damaged cables became wet due to heavy rains. FiOS voice, Internet and TV services were not affected.

Police: Crime rate dropped 26% during RNC, SAFECOP makes a difference

Tampa, Florida-- As the City of Tampa prepared for its first ever National Special Security Event, the Republican National Convention, the Tampa Police Department quietly deployed a cutting edge technology called SAFECOP to ensure citizens' safety.

It seems to have been successful, seeing that most cities typically have an increase in crime while law enforcement cover large scale events, and Tampa's crime rate actually dropped 26% during the RNC (even though there were 20% fewer detectives, crime analysts and plain clothes ROC officers on hand).
