Canoe and Kayak At County Parks

Hillsborough Co., FL-- It's time to get outside and get paddling, whether you're an adventure-seeker or a low-key nature-lover looking for a peaceful float through Hillsborough County’s waterways. Four-hour canoe/kayak rentals are offered at $25 at several Hillsborough County Regional Parks. A park entry fee will also apply at $2 per vehicle carrying up to eight people, and $1 each additional person. Only cash, check and traveler’s check payments are accepted at this time.

Hernando Co., FL-- The boat ramp and fishing pier at Lake Townsen Regional Park has re-opened for small vessel boating, says the County Parks and Recreation Department. 

The ramp and pier closed back in September because of rising water levels from heavy rainfall.

The parks is located at 28011 Lake Lindsey Rd (C.R. 476).

Pygmy hippo born at Lowry Park Zoo

Tampa, Florida -- A rare pygmy hippopotamus was born Thursday at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo.  It is the second to be born at the zoo, with the first being in 2008.

The World Conservation Union estimates that there are fewer than 3,000 pygmy hippos remaining in the wild.

Through the month of November, visitors can step back in time with many historical and cultural festivals and reenactments.

If competitive running, biking and surfing sound more appealing, many state parks will host events focused on exercise and family-fun this month.

A couple local parks hosting events are as follows:
