Man impersonating officer sought in Hernando County

Ridge Manor, Florida -- Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis is warning residents of a man masquerading as a law enforcement officer that has already conducted at least one stop in their jurisdiction.

The sheriff's office says on Feb. 2, between 9:45 and 10 p.m., the man -- in a white Crown Victoria with red and blue flashing lights on the dash and in the grill -- stopped a person in the area of Cortez Boulevard and McKethan Road.

Authorities say the car did not have a cage or any law enforcement markings on it.

Rocket launchers, flute gun given up in Bay area gun swap

TAMPA, Florida - Two rocket launchers and a flute fashioned into a gun were among the weapons turned into the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's Gun Swap program on Saturday.

"We knew in light of the recent tragedy in Newtown that it would be popular," said Captain Chad Chronister.

A total of 2,541 weapons were exchanged for $75 and tickets to a Tampa Bay Rays home game at five locations throughout the county.

Gun Swap was an amnesty program of sorts, aimed at getting unwanted weapons of the streets.

Hillsborough courthouse burglarized after Gasparilla

TAMPA, Florida -- Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies are looking for the man who broke into the Hillsborough County Courthouse on Saturday evening.

Deputies say an unidentified man in his 20s forced his way into the courthouse annex by smashing a glass door, hours after the Gasparilla parade took place nearby. The man was reportedly shirtless and wearing parade beads, and he appeared intoxicated.

Man harrases former friends at sheriff's office's expense

Brooksville, Florida -- A man's attempt to scare his former friends went too far when he got police involved not once, but multiple times in one night, leading to his arrest.

Hernando County deputies say on Thursday they received numerous calls from a resident on Hemlock Warbler Road saying a man they had recently filed a protection order against had parked his truck outside their home and the alarm was going off. 

Police: Woman steals electric cart to go shopping

Brooksville, Florida -- A woman shopping at Brooksville Square was arrested after she took an electric cart from store-to-store.

Brooksville Police were called out to the shopping plaza after a witness -- who knew the electric cart belonged to the Walmart store on Cortez Boulevard -- watched as Charlotte Adkins drove the cart from Publix to Walgreen's.

Police say Adkins, 52, admitted to taking the cart to go to the other stores. Walmart told police it wanted to press charges for the theft of the cart valued at $1,200 and Adkins was arrested.

Cops: Woman steals over $550 in Crest Whitening Strips

Tampa, FL-- An early evening trip to a local Walgreens resulted in 13 packages of free teeth whitening kits for one woman- but only because she took them without paying for them.

According to reports, Hillsborough deputies are asking for the public's assistance in locating the woman pictured above.

They say on Monday just before 6 p.m., she stole over $550 worth of Crest Whitening Strips from the Walgreens located on the 6000 block of Waters Ave.
